IMPORTANT REMINDER:
We are a UPA sanctioned event. I know I should have been bugging yall a long time ago about this, but you must submit a valid roster with signed waivers prior to playing on Saturday. I know this is a hassle, but we need the insurance. The series is starting soon, so now is a good time to get your teammates signed up. You can do it online or at the tournament. Go to http://upa.org/outreach/sanctioning/teamregistration for forms and more info.
CAPTAINS' MEETING:
Plan to arrive at Freeman Park (go to website for directions) at 9AM for registration/captains' meeting. During this time you should be submitting your UPA forms and paying your tournament and UPA fees, if necessary. Our team accountant Julian Malone will be collecting these forms and fees. During this time I will be finalizing the format and schedule (in case some team bails). There probably will not be a point in time where every team's captain is huddled together listening to me recite all the rules and regulations that will be clearly posted. The schedule, with relevant "captains' meeting" type info, will be on a poster board. Find the poster, then ask me if you have questions. If I'm still working on the poster because a team bailed, then give me a minute. The tournament costs $200, payable to MUDA, procedes going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
SHADE AND WATER:
The weatherman says it will be very hot this weekend, and I can't believe he gets paid for that. There will not be as much shade at the new park, as we had at Audubon. The fields will be nicer, however. You are advised to bring tents, canopies, or whatever kind of shading device you have. Also, there will be water provided and there are water fountains at Freeman, so we should stay stocked up. However, please take the responsibility of ensuring that your teammates are properly hydrated. I'll try to leave gaps in the schedule to give teams time to refill water bottle between games.
PARK RULES:
This is a nice suburban family park, with athletic fields. No dogs and no alcohol. I would imagine that we will be patrolled by the Bartlett police more than we would if we were at a Memphis park, and so you should warn your teammates that they engage in illegal activities at their own risk, and to the risk of the tournament. They'll be plenty of beer at the party.
